Frequently Asked Questions
Are you kid-friendly? Absolutely! We love welcoming families of any kind and want everyone to feel right at home. However, please keep in mind that our property isn’t fully fenced and our own kids are older now, so we don’t provide high chairs, cots, or child-specific plates and utensils. Of course, you’re more than welcome to bring anything you need for your little ones. We do have a few family-friendly games—like UNO, Mouse Trap, and a NES mini—and our Apple TV features Apple TV+ and Netflix for cosy movie nights.
Do you allow pets? We’re thrilled to host well-behaved dogs (we have a blue roan cocker spaniel who loves spending time here, too!). Our property is only partially fenced, so please keep an eye on your pup. To ensure a peaceful stay for everyone: If you go out, please close bedroom doors so your furry friend remains in the lounge and kitchen areas. Kindly clean up after your dog and dispose of waste in the red bin.
Looking for a great dog-friendly walk? Porters Pass, just down the road, is dog-friendly and perfect for a scenic stroll with your four-legged companion.
Have another type of pet? Reach out and let us know—we’re happy to consider non-canine companions on a case-by-case basis too.
Do you offer an early check-in and/or late check-out? Our standard check-in time is 3 PM, and check-out is at 11 AM. If you’d like to arrive earlier or leave later, just let us know! Our hosts, Ally and Blake, will do their best to accommodate you, depending on availability.
What’s the kitchen like? Our kitchen is rustic yet well-equipped, featuring quality cookware like a Staub cocotte (Dutch oven) and Scanpan pots, pans, and knives. You’ll find all the essentials, including Maxwell Williams crockery, an LG family-sized fridge, and plenty of utensils. We’ve also set up a handy breakfast station with a capsule coffee machine, tea kettle, and toaster. There’s enough glassware for four, including both red and white wine glasses. If you have any specific requests or questions, feel free to ask!
Does it get hot or cold here? Blackheath sits at the highest point of the Blue Mountains (1065m), so our summers are cooler than Sydney’s. Even on a 30°C (86°F) day, the cottage usually stays comfortable. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans, and if you need to cool off further, the local Blackheath pool offers a refreshing dip. For the more adventurous, Minnehaha Falls is just a 17-minute drive away—enjoy the 20m waterfall views and maybe even a swim beneath the cascade!
Winters can be quite chilly, which adds to the area’s charm. Stay snug by lighting the wood fireplace in the living room and curling up with our luxury wool blankets. We also provide a gas heater, plus panel heaters and electric blankets in each bedroom. During the magical winter season (June to August), the Blue Mountains celebrate Yulefest with festive holiday-style events. Check out the Yulefest Calendar at www.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/blue-mountains-calendar-of-events for details.
I’m here to slow down and relax, but is there good Wi-Fi? Of course! Colomatta Mist is connected to the nbn network, so you can stay online whenever you need. We also provide an LG OLED TV with Apple TV 4K (including Apple TV+ and Netflix) and a JBL Charge 5 portable Bluetooth speaker for music and movie nights.
Are there any ‘no-nos’ we should know about? Just the usual house rules: No smoking indoors (you’re welcome to smoke outside, but please bin your cigarette butts properly). No parties, please, and be mindful of our neighbors. This isn’t “just a rental”—we regularly spend time here ourselves, and we’d love for you to treat it with the same care and respect we do.
Please kindly note that our cottage has a step-in bath with overhead shower, which might not suit those who have mobility issues.
